The Variable Reluctance (VR) Stepper Motor is one of the simplest stepper motors. Unlike other stepper motors, its rotor doesn't have any magnets or magnetic material that holds a magnetic field, so there are no magnetic forces between the stator and rotor. Because of this, the motor doesn't produce any holding torque (detent torque) when it's off.
