You can use the water mist method to apply copter tape. Its how you apply vinyl decals to race cars and motorbikes and copter tape is just a clear vinyl. In fact according to the internet its how you apply helicopter tape to helicopter blade leading edges.

If the edge is coming up, get some Autoglym Tar Remover on a paper towel and pat it there, that'll lift it. I doubt on a matt paint job you'll have a problem anyway, I have seen copter tape pull off the finish of a gloss bike, but only cos it wasn't taken off with any care, and even then probably wouldn't have happened on a different paint job.

Looking at purchasing some helicopter tape to protect my Allez from the usual stone chips. Where has everyone else fitted the tape? I am thing the usual downtube because that's the most vulnerable part. also thought about the back end of the seat tube because there is minimal clearance between the frame and the tyre.

I agree that using water helps to apply large pieces as it stops the grab and allows the tape to be moved around. I'm just completing a new build and don't want the frame to be covered in cable rub marks in 12 months time. I've seen a few topics about applying Heli-Tape to frames and have the following questions: What is it ? (I'm assuming it's a hard wearing clear tape). Where's the best place to get some ? Most probably, the surface is lacquered just like any other type of frame (if it's painted). I got Bike Tape from www.biketart.com which is helicopter tape, looks almost invisible and it has stayed put really well. Probably similar to what you have.

+1 for hairdryer, it softens the glue. I 'bike shield' on most of my bikes which is similar (but I don't have a carbon frame) one of them is an alloy tourer/winter hack, 8 years old and 7000 miles and the frame is scratch free and looks as good as new, it's a bit thicker than helicopter tape and they say it is easy to get off but I have not needed to do so yet.

Hi, I'm going to get a Whyte T120 in the next coulpe of weeks What I would like to know is, with the carbon swinging arm would it be best to helicopter tape the inside of the arm to protect from muck & stones stuck on the tyres & on the outside to protect from shoe rub?
