News spoke with Randolph County Superintendent Shawn Dilly as well as parents of the Pickens and Harman communities after moves to close the two schools failed earlier this week.

Harman community members were in a celebratory mood Tuesday night after the Randolph County Board of Education voted against superintendent Shawn Dilly's recommendation to close Harman School.

Following the move to keep Harman open, Randolph County Schools Superintendent Shawn Dilly released a statement Wednesday that the BOE would formally withdraw the proposal to close Pickens School. The statement came hours prior to another meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday night regarding the schools’ potential closure.

After the Randolph County Board of Education (BOE) voted on Tuesday to keep Harman School open, it has also canceled the vote on the closure of Pickens School on Wednesday, meaning both K-12 schools will remain open.

After the Randolph County Board of Education voted to keep Harman School open Tuesday night, Randolph County Schools has also decided to keep Pickens School open and cancel all proposals, plans and meetings to discuss its closure.
