City officials and business owners say the presence of U.S. Border Patrol has triggered a drop in foot traffic among customers.

Charlotte’s immigrant community remains on high alert after federal agents have arrested more than 250 people in an operation that began over the weekend. The fear means businesses are seeing fewer customers as people stay home.

The Department of Homeland Security says there were over 140 arrests this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina as the Trump administration ramps up their crackdown on immigration. Chair of the Mecklenburg County Commissioners Mark Jerrell joins Chris Jansing to detail the fear and confusion in his community right now.

"The fact that a paper tells me you're now a citizen of this country doesn't take away from the fact that I look the way I look," Cristina Rojas told CBS News.

Cristina Rojas, who became a U.S. citizen in March, says she has temporarily closed The Batchmaker, the bakery she owns in Charlotte, North Carolina, fearing for her community's safety amid the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

The Trump administration is planning to dispatch Border Patrol agents to Charlotte and New Orleans to oversee immigration operations that could involve armored vehicles and special operations teams.

Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell said Monday that she didn't know how large the operation would be or how long agents would be present.
