First snow this winter season falls in Whatcom County over the weekend

A winter wonderland swept through south Bellingham during the first weekend of February. Although there was no snow in downtown Bellingham Sunday afternoon, just a couple miles south near Lake Samish there was plenty, as the small community embraced the weekend’s winter blast.

Whatcom County sees first substantial snow of winter; accumulations expected through Monday

Snow began falling about 7 a.m. Saturday in areas south and east of Bellingham, the first substantial snowfall of the winter season. Bands of snow were sweeping from the north as temperatures hovered around three freezing mark. About an inch of snow was sticking to the ground in the Sudden Valley community, with lesser amounts elsewhere.
