After a microchip company abruptly shut down, animal shelters and related organizations began warning pet owners to re-register their animals with a different service.

Save This Life, a pet microchipping company based in Texas, has stopped operations. According to several reports, the business is permanently closed.

"Microchipping is an absolutely crucial tool for reuniting pets with their families when they get lost," said executive director of Pittsburgh's Humane Animal Rescue Dan Cody
