With over 1,000 killed near aid sites and 81 children dead from hunger, Gaza faces a man-made humanitarian collapse

A 5-month-old Palestinian baby suffering from severe malnutrition died in her mother’s arms in Gaza Friday, one of the latest victims of a starvation crisis that has generated international outrage but continues to deepen.

Over 113 in Gaza have died from famine and malnutrition amid war, siege, and collapsing humanitarian aid routes.

Operations in three parts of the enclave were temporarily halted on Sunday to allow more aid to enter the territory, the Israeli military said. It was unclear if the decision would relieve the hunger crisis in Gaza.

Israel has said it would halt military operations each day for 10 hours in parts of Gaza and allow new aid corridors in the enclave, where images of starving, malnourished Palestinians have alarmed the world.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip — Malnutrition rates among children in the Gaza Strip have doubled since Israel sharply restricted the entry of food in March, the U.N. said Tuesday. New Israeli strikes killed more than 90 Palestinians, including dozens of women and children, according to health officials.

Five starving children at a Gaza City hospital were wasting away, and nothing the doctors tried was working. The basic treatments for malnourishment that could save them had run out under Israel’s blockade.

According to Palestinian health officials, more than 100 Palestinians in Gaza have died from hunger and malnutrition since the beginning of the war, most of them in recent weeks as Israel's blockade of aid allowed into the region continues.
