HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) — Storm preparations are underway in Western North Carolina. Crews there are not only preparing for the chance of snow and ice on the roadways, but are still cleaning up from Hurricane Helene. At the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Henderson County Yard, crews have been preparing for a winter storm.

The NWS Blacksburg VA issued an updated winter storm warning at 3:46 a.m. on Monday. The warning is for Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga counties.

Gov. Josh Stein declared a state of emergency for North Carolina on Thursday before Friday’s winter storm. The announcement was made on Thursday, Jan. 9, about 24 hours before forecasts predicted winter weather to begin moving into the Carolinas.
