AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a state bar complaint alleging a top official in the state attorney general’s office lied to the U.S. Supreme Court in an attempt to overturn President Joe Biden’s election victory in 2020.

The state bar sought to take away the law license of Assistant Attorney General Brent Webster over a Texas lawsuit challenging 2020 presidential election results.

The case stems from Ken Paxton and the aide's effort to challenge the 2020 election results in four key battleground states won by Joe Biden.

The three-term Republican attorney general said the ruling validates his claim that his office was the target of "political retaliation."

In a split decision, the Texas Supreme Court dismissed a State Bar of Texas disciplinary action against the first assistant attorney general for his role in trying to disqualify votes in swing states in order to aid Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
