Texas junior quarterback Quinn Ewers declared for the NFL draft on Wednesday, ending a Longhorns career in which he led the program to a Big 12 championship and twice to the College Football Playoff but was not always embraced by a fan base eagerly waiting for Arch Manning to take over.

Manning's first game as the unquestioned face of Texas football will be against the same team Ewers faced in his last: Ohio State in Week 1.

The Texas Longhorns will have high expectations going into 2025 after finishing two consecutive seasons in the College Football Playoff semifinals. Quinn Ewers has not officially announced his intentions for 2025, but the junior quarterback said before the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday that he expects to enter April's draft.

Ewers, who was born in Texas, began his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas where he started for three years, threw 68 touchdowns and led the Longhorns to two CFP appearances. This past year he held off Arch Manning, who will now take his spot as the team's starting quarterback.
