The Office of Inspector General at the Treasury Department is launching an audit of the security controls for the federal government’s payment system after Senate Democrats sounded the alarm regarding the access provided to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency team.

The department’s deputy inspector general said the audit will examine access and security controls on Bureau of Fiscal Service systems.

A judge ruled Saturday that the activities of Elon Musk’s government cost-cutting effort risk “the disclosure of sensitive and confidential information” and render them “more vulnerable than before to hacking.
