MS Dhoni has remained tight-lipped on his CSK future but the franchise has reportedly made a bold move on their former captain.

With so much speculation around MS Dhoni 's IPL future, it seems like he may be retained by the franchise. A latest report on Rev Sports claims that the franchise is looking to retain Dhoni but at a lower retention value.

It was the Super Kings who reportedly urged the BCCI to bring back the old rule where a retired player can be categorised in the uncapped section of players. CSK made the request hoping that the return of the rule would allow them to retain MS Dhoni at a cheaper price. But, there are other challenges with the topic too.

MS Dhoni is likely to be retained by Chennai Super Kings however, the record five-time IPL champs are likely to give their former captain a pay cut. Furthermore, the Yellow Army have drawn up a list of their top five retentions although BCCI is yet to reveal how many players each team will be allowed to retain.

Dhoni thus could end up playing one more season for the team that had led from the inaugural edition in 2008 until 2023, excluding the 2015 and the 2016 seasons when the franchise was suspended along with Rajasthan Royals due to corruption.
