Israel brought its delegation home from Gaza ceasefire talks for consultations on Thursday after Hamas delivered a new response to a proposal for a truce and hostages deal. The Israeli Prime Minister's office thanked mediators for their efforts and said the negotiators were returning home for "further consultations".

Ceasefire talks between Hamas and Israel are expected to resume next week as the war in Gaza nears it’s 22nd month and experts warn Palestinians are on the brink of famine.

The US and Israeli negotiating teams involved in efforts to secure a ceasefire between the Palestinian militant Hamas movement and Israel in the Gaza Strip have both been recalled home in a sign the talks may be on the brink of failure.
