A new task force charged with making potential revisions to the state public records law held its first meeting on Thursday.
The Memphis Safe Task Force has made more than 6,300 arrests since September. About 15% were immigration detentions.
The group was created by Assembly Bill 128, passed unanimously by the 2025 Legislature. The legislation came in lieu of a plan to appoint a public records ombudsman to adjudicate records disputes.
