Publix is the largest employee-owned grocery store chain in the United States, currently operating at more than 1,400 locations across the Southeastern U.S.

Three quarters of Sarasota Herald-Tribune readers polled said they would no longer shop at Publix due to its recent decision to allow open carry in its grocery stores: nearly 76% said they would stop shopping there, while 22% said they would continue.

Publix will open its first downtown Jacksonville store, ending a decade-long push for a full-service grocery store in the urban core.

Under Florida law, businesses and private property owners can choose whether to allow or ban open carry on their premises.
