Five rail cars hauling coal and two locomotive engines derailed into the Gunnison River near Grand Junction in Mesa County, Union Pacific Railroad officials said.
The first crash was reported near milepost 130, west of Gypsum, and involved around 20 cars. The other crash, involving 30 vehicles, was reported in the westbound lanes near milepost 119, just east of Glenwood Springs.
