LONDON — European Union privacy watchdogs fined TikTok 530 million euros ($600 million) on Friday after a four-year investigation found that the video sharing app's data transfers to China breached the EU's strict data privacy rules.

TikTok disputes the claim it hasn't adequately protected people's personal data, and has said it plans to appeal.

The social media giant said on Friday that it disagreed with the fine from European authorities and planned to appeal.
