After struggling with drug abuse and personal loss, she reemerged in 1979 with the acclaimed album “Broken English.”

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull,” a Thursday, January 30, statement shared with the BBC read. “Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.”

Faithfull was best known for songs that included UK Top 10 hit ‘As Tears Go By’ and starring roles in films including 1968’s ‘The Girl On A Motorcycle.

She played God on a British sitcom and remains a god for many singer-songwriters.
