The Northern Lights may be visible in several continental U.S. states Monday night after a strong solar flare caused solar eruptions over the weekend, which are expected to cause some aurora sightings in northern and Midwestern states.

Many night owls shared their striking images of the aurora borealis on social media, capturing the dancing display of colorful hues.

The Northern Lights were captured by a BBC Weather Watcher as they illuminated the night sky in parts of England. The lights - also known as the aurora borealis - made an appearance over Northamptonshire. Meteorologists said the phenomenon was often easier to see through a camera or telescope.

The lights may be visible in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine and the northernmost parts of New York.

If you didn't get the chance to catch the Northern Lights last week, another opportunity may be possible for the next two nights. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Space Prediction Center released the next three nights Aurora forecast indicating that Monday and Tuesday night both have a moderate to high chance for Northern Light activity in West Michigan.
