Ahead of his debut season in F1, Hamilton was testing the McLaren MP4-22 in Valencia when he lost control of the car on the pit straight while travelling at speeds of up to 185mph. There is no footage of the incident, but at the time The Guardian reported that Hamilton had spun off backwards through a gravel trap and crashed into a tyre wall.
