A major winter storm is impacting parts of the Midwest on Sunday, bringing blizzard conditions, heavy snow and ice to Missouri, Kansas and southern Illinois and Indiana. The major impacts from that system stay south of the WISN 12 viewing area,

Parts of Illinois and Wisconsin will see rare lake-effect snow off Lake Michigan on Monday. Snow rates in this band are as high as a 1/2" to 1" per hour. The band is expected to drop south Monday and swing though the heart of Chicago resulting in hazardous travel conditions.

While some areas won’t see much snowfall or any at all, a band of lake-effect snow is expected to develop starting Sunday night, possibly dumping several inches of snow in far northeastern Illinois. The dose of winter weather could deliver anywhere between 3 to 5 inches of snow across Lake County and create driving challenges as the work week
