Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov’s ‘no surprises’ message after beating Bruins on the road
Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov leads a 3-1 win over the Bruins and delivers a “no surprises” message to the league.
Forwards Matěj Blümel and Riley Tufte were recalled from Providence, while Viktor Arvidsson and Casey Mittelstadt were placed on injured reserve with their respective lower-body injuries. Charlie McAvoy will also be sidelined, head coach Marco Sturm said. The defenseman took a puck to the face on Saturday in Montreal.
The Bruins stayed even for a period, but the Hurricanes scored two goals in the second period and Boston spent the rest of the game trying to dig out and fell, 3-1. The loss snapped Jeremy Swayman’s perfect November, ending his streak at five games and the Bruins’ home winning streak at six.
RECAP: Fresh off a gutsy road win, the Bruins returned to Boston for a Monday night head-to-head with the Hurricanes at TD Garden.
Carolina's bottom-six ignited a dominant win, showcasing impressive offensive depth. Kochetkov's shutout bid was cruelly denied with seconds left.
Boston was also skating shorthanded. Regular veterans like Charlie McAvoy, Viktor Arvidsson and Elias Lindholm were all sidelined with injury, making room for Providence call-ups Riley Tufte and Matěj Blümel to make their season debut. It takes time, however, for things to seamlessly come together.
Jeremy Swayman and the Bruins were haunted by an old friend in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes at TD Garden.
Carolina Hurricanes (49-22-7, second in the Metropolitan Division) vs. Boston Bruins (46-17-15, first in the Atlantic Division) Boston; Tuesday, 7 p.m. EDT BOTTOM LINE: The Boston Bruins play the Carolina Hurricanes with a four win streak intact.
A tepid, tired, too-blah-for-Boston second, with the Bruins outshot, 13-7, and outscored, 2-0, set the stage for the loss.
