China has denied any suggestion it's in active negotiations with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump over tariffs, saying any notion of progress in the matter is as groundless as “trying to catch the wind.

Trump pushed back on China after Beijing's foreign ministry called the administration's assertions that tariff talks are happening "fake news."

China called for all "unilateral" U.S. tariffs to be cancelled, as signs emerged that the Trump administration may de-escalate its trade war with Beijing.
