TROPICAL UPDATE: Tropical Storm Helene to strengthen to a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is now Tropical Storm Helene and is expected to continue to intensify to near hurricane strength by Wednesday. Intensification will only continue over the Eastern Gulf of Mexico. A Major Category 3 Hurricane is likely at Landfall near the Big Bend region of Florida.
Texas A&M Task Force 1 is deploying to Florida ahead of Tropical Storm Helene
Tuesday, Governor Greg Abbott deployed Texas A&M Task Force 1 to the Sunshine State. The Task Force is one of 28 federal teams under FEMA’s National Urban Search and Rescue System. Headquartered in College Station, it’s one of two statewide search-and-rescue teams under the direction of the Texas Department of Emergency Management.
The National Hurricane Center says the tropical storm is expected to strengthen over the next few days and move into the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida.
