Jake Lloyd, who rose to fame as young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, is opening up about his mental health struggles and the schizophrenia diagnosis that contributed to his leaving Hollywood shortly after the film’s release.

In a recent interview with author Clayton Sandell, Jake Lloyd -- who is best known for playing a young Anakin Skywalker in 1999's Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace -- shared a rare update on his mental health amid his struggles with schizophrenia.

Lloyd, now 35, recently completed an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility in Southern California, author Clayton Sandell reported on Wednesday, Jan. 1. The actor, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia, is starting the new year living at a rehabilitation center where he is receiving treatment.
