As filming gets underway for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, Nintendo and Sony have shared first look images of Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
The movie is being directed by Wes Ball, whose earlier work includes 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes'. Miyamoto himself is producing the film along with Avi Arad, the veteran producer known for his work on major superhero titles.
It's no secret that Shigeru Miyamoto has taken a bit of a backseat when it comes to game development. The last Mario game he personally oversaw as director was Super Mario Run, and after his most recent experience as general producer on Pikmin 4, the creator has largely shifted over to the world of movies.
Following in the footsteps of The Last of Us and the Super Mario Bros. Movie in the 2020s and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Resident Evil in the 2000s, The Legend of Zelda is the latest game IP to get the cinematic treatment, and production will fly to our screens faster than Link on a Paraglider.
Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has discussed how his role has changed after stepping back from leading development on Nintendo's most famous video game series.
