California’s Senate Minority Leader said the bill came in response to County’s vote to restrict local resources for immigration enforcement.

Local Republican politicians trying to promote a change in state immigration law, were drowned out by the chants of protestors who didnt want to hear it.

California has long been considered a sanctuary for all, especially immigrants and their families. But a group of Republican lawmakers believe certain laws protecting these communities have gone too far.

The proposed law, SB 554, is titled “Safety Before Criminal Sanctuary,” and is a direct response to a policy passed by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors last December.
