The Buffaloes were trailing by as many as 14 points in the game, and with only a few seconds left, they found themselves down by seven. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders launched a 43-yard "Hail Mary" attempt to the end zone as time expired, and wide receiver LaJohnTay Wester made the catch to tie the game.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum appeared on "The Matt Barrie Show" and stated that he no longer considers the Volunteers a fringe playoff team but a fringe championship contender. "They no longer look like a fringe playoff team," Finebaum said. "They now look like a definite playoff team and maybe a fringe championship team."
