Mixon, Texans and Caserio
Digest more
The Houston Texans are now 11 weeks deep into the 2025 NFL season without revealing much clarity on the status of injured running back Joe Mixon, who's been out since the start of training camp in the summer with a lingering foot injury, paired with no clear indication of when he may return.
Mixon isn't expected to play at all this year, per NFL Media. It's a shocking turn of events for someone who was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2024 during his first season in Houston. Texans general manager Nick Caserio was actually asked about Mixon's injury this week, and at the time, he gave an ominous update on the running back's health.
Earlier on Thursday, a report stated that Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon is not expected to play at all in 2025, but the veteran has since pushed back against that report.
Mixon is signed through 2026 on a three-year, $19.7 million contract extension that he signed following the trade from the Cincinnati Bengals last offseason. Texans general manager Nick Caserio ’s most recent comments, calling Mixon’s situation “very gray,” have received renewed attention amid Rapoport’s report on Mixon.
The Texans general manager was optimistic on team's start and improving trends for quarterback and offensive coordinator.
