VIIRS/MODIS satellite hotspot data is updated daily in the morning with the red dots indicating which direction the fire is moving. The color of the dots shows how recent the data is (red is today, orange yesterday, yellow two days old). Perimeter data is updated by Cal Fire twice daily.

A possible arson suspect was arrested Thursday night near the Kenneth Fire area as fire crews continue battling flames burning near homes in Calabasas and West Hills. At around 4:30 p.m., Los Angeles police responded to reports of a man attempting to light a fire in the 21700 block of Ybarra Road in Woodland Hills.

A new fire prompted evacuations Thursday in and around Los Angeles even as firefighters aided by calmer winds saw the first signs of successfully beating back the region’s deadly and devastating wildfires.

Firefighters raced to contain a new wildfire that erupted near homes in the area of Calabasas and West Hills, northwest of Los Angeles, on Thursday afternoon. The Kenneth Fire has burned more than 900 acres and is 0% contained.

By 5:25 p.m., Cal Fire said the fire had already spread to 960 acres. Evacuations were ordered in the Hidden Hills area, from Vanowen south to Burbank
