A first-of-its-kind study has found that in US communities where drinking water is contaminated with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), there’s also an increased incidence of some cancers, with the so-called “forever chemicals” potentially contributing to over 6,

PFAS from drinking water may contribute to between 4,000 and 7,000 new cases of cancer every year, according to research from the University of Southern California.

The study is particularly significant because it could help explain the association between these plastic-derived chemicals and neurological disorders.
