An MP has criticised the speed at which flood warnings are issued by the Environment Agency. Sarah Bool, Conservative MP for South Northamptonshire, raised the issue during a debate on flooding at the House of Commons on Monday.

MORE snow and ice is on the way, according to forecasters who have issued another weather warning. The Met Office has put in place a yellow warning across the north west of England and north Wales for snow and icy patches.

Flood warnings are still in place in parts of Yorkshire after heavy rain left people needing to be rescued by emergency crews. The warnings, which indicate that flooding is expected, are predominantly in North Yorkshire in areas including the River Ure at Boroughbridge and the River Wiske at Kirby Wiske.

Most of south-west England and Wales, coastal parts of North Wales and Merseyside and parts of north-west England and the West Midlands have a yellow snow and ice warning in place until 10am today (January 7).

A number of areas across East and West Sussex remain affected by flooding after heavy rain over the weekend. The Met Office yellow warning for rain covering the county expired at 09:00 GMT on Monday. However as of 12:30 eight flood warnings remained in place across West and East Sussex, while 27 flood alerts are also still active.
