On Thursday and Friday, warm air from the remnants of a tropical storm pushed west from the Texas coast, flowed over the Balcones Escarpment and fell as heavy rainfall over a large area from Austin north to San Angelo and the Guadalupe River area, according to John Nielsen-Gammon, Texas state climatologist.

At least 80 people are dead and many more are missing in Texas in the wake of torrential rains and resulting flooding. By far the greatest number of fatalities occurred in Kerr County, where 68 people are believed to be dead,

Bodies recovered from the Texas Hill Country floods will be sent to Fort Worth for identification, authorities said Sunday. Col. Freeman Martin, head of the state’s Department of Public Safety, said at a news conference that bodies of adults and children at a local funeral home are awaiting identification.

A beloved teacher, child and adult campers, camp directors and a counselor are among at least 80 people who have died in the flooding in Central Texas.
