The Met Office has warned of a risk of power cuts and poor driving conditions which may leave some motorists stranded on the roads. The Exeter-based forecaster has issued a yellow weather warning across much of the South West, lasting from 9am to 11.59pm.

Another weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for icy roads on Friday morning (January 10). The yellow alert, which includes most of Devon, including Plymouth, as well as parts of Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, is in place from 3am-11am today.

A rare amber warning for snow has been issued across Devon and Cornwall with immediate effect. Snow has fallen across large parts of the region, including Dartmoor, forcing some schools to close and road restrictions on the A38 motorway. A yellow weather warning was already in place for the South West but the Met Office has since upgraded this.

A yellow weather warning for ice has been issued by the Met Office. The warning, external is in place for parts of Suffolk and Norfolk and comes into force from 16:00 GMT until 10:00 on Friday. The Met Office said scattered wintery showers could lead to some icy patches on untreated surfaces.

The Met Office has issued new weather warnings for parts of the UK, with yellow warnings for ice and snow in place until Friday morning. The two new warnings cover parts of Northern Ireland and Wales as well as areas in north-west England and the east of England - they come after an existing warning for snow and ice in parts of northern Scotland.
