A man named Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes attacked and poured gasoline on Danville City Councilman Lee Vogler before setting him on fire, according to Virginia police.

Authorities say Danville Councilman Lee Vogler knew his attacker and the assault stemmed from a personal matter, not Vogler’s service on the city council.

Police say a man who doused a Virginia city councilman in gasoline and set him on fire told investigators he wanted the attack to be fatal.
