Avelo Airlines is shutting down its West Coast commercial flights as the carrier doubles down on East Coast operations and faces growing criticism over its deportation flights. An Avelo spokesperson confirmed the end of its Western operations to the Daily Voice on Tuesday,

Organizers of a boycott that has been ongoing since Avelo began running ICE deportation charters took at least partial credit for the cuts.

The arrival of Avelo to Salem in October 2023 heralded the return of commercial routes at the airport after a nearly 15-year absence, and remained the only commercial airline serving the Salem-Willamette Valley Airport. It provided flights to Burbank and Las Vegas.

Avelo Airlines, which has come under fire due to its contract to operate deportation flights for Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, will cease serving Eugene in December, an airline spokesperson confirmed to KLCC Monday.

The city of Eureka has decided to stop using Avelo Airlines. That’s because of its contract with the federal government for deportation flights.

Avelo Airlines, which has come under fire for agreeing to transport detained immigrants, announced July 9 it is extending its East Coast flight schedule to mid-February 2026. Avelo has routes to 11 Florida airports.

In at least two documented cases, guards reportedly used a full-body restraint device known as “The Wrap”, a straightjacket-like apparatus with handhold straps.
