As Colorado drops into a deep freeze, Denver Rescue Mission is among the shelters that will be increasing capacity to protect residents. The kind of subfreezing temperatures that are moving in will be dangerous to anyone living outside.

A lot is happening in the Denver weather forecast as snow, blustery winds, and arctic air settle in to the region for the next several days.

After a mild Thursday, an arctic blast of extreme cold will arrive in parts of Colorado on Friday afternoon. According to Pinpoint Weather Meteorologist Alden German, snow chances could start to affect the Friday evening commute and the below-freezing temperatures are expected to last for several days in a row.

It is January in Denver and the National Western Stock Show is in town, which can only mean one thing ... cold and snowy Colorado weather is around the corner. It is a tradition at this point, and this year will be no different. An arctic blast will bring temperatures 20 to 40 degrees below average and a chance for snow.

Colorado Springs will see a high of 12-13 degrees and a low of minus 5 on Sunday. A cold front will cause wind gusts up to 20 mph, dropping the wind chill down further. A round of light snow Sunday night into Monday is in the forecast, but flurries shouldn't last past the morning, according to the weather service.

We'll see one more mild day across Colorado before a strong cold front races through Friday night. Temperatures will climb into upper 40s by the afternoon, with light snow developing by evening commute.
