And So It Goes' interviews all four of his wives and candidly examines singer's struggles with money, alcohol and critics

And So It Goes, Part Two documentary aired on July 25, 2025, wrapping up the two-part retrospective of the iconic musician’s life.

Part 1 of the HBO Billy Joel documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes Part 1, will air on HBO on Friday, July 18 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and Pacific Time. That means that no matter what coast you’re on, the Billy Joel doc airs on HBO at 8 p.m. The runtime is for Part 1 is 147 minutes.

Almost five hours in length, the two-part look at the hard-to-pin-down artist flows effortlessly, making for a riveting watch even for those coming to it with little affection for his work.

Actor Tom Hanks was glad to get into a "New York State of Mind" for his latest project. Hanks, 69, serves as an executive producer for And So It Goes, the two-part documentary about Billy Joel's rise to fame, but there was a lot he didn't know about the singer before signing on to the project.
