Q:
How long does it take to go through the museum?
A:
I would allow at least 2 hours. Be sure to not miss the movie that shows all the training these young recruits have to go through. Makes you really appreciate what they have accomplished.

We plan to visit our daughter and family early January. My husband served in the corps, is a disabled vet and I want to see Parris Island and bring our kids. Would our passports and enhanced drivers licenses from New York State be an appropriate identification to be on the base? Please advise as we want to be prepared.
A:
We had to show our drivers license and our rental car agreement along with proof of auto insurance. I guess it depends which guard you get.

You can just arrive and take a tour. I would avoid Thursdays and Fridays unless you want to be there during family day (Thursday’s) or graduation (Friday’s). These two days are very crowded. You will need your ID. Sometimes they do random searches in which you will need your cars registration, insurance, car rental info if rented, and all the adults ID. Otherwise only the drivers ID will be ok except on graduation Fridays. On these days every adult will need to show ID. There will be security and bag checks at special events as well. Don’t walk on the grass. You will see people doing it but it is frowned upon very much there. My son is a Marine and was there during boot camp. That was one rule we were asked to follow. The Parris Island Museum is a great place to visit and so is the Visitors Center if you want to learn about the history and training of the Marines.
Q:
Why did you only rate it 1 star which is terrible? Seems like you enjoyed your trip. You might want to reevaluate your rating.
A:
Yes, the museum was great! I rated it 5 stars. :) I noticed the reviewer below me rated it 1 star, because they couldn't get on the base.
