There are parking lots located across the street beside the museum, you have to cross the street and walk up to the main entrance. There are also limited parking meters, but I've never been that lucky at an event. I would suggest getting there 30 to 45 minutes early to use the parking lots, they are a paid lot, just a few dollars but worth it, hope that helps.

Kanawha is indeed lovely, and you should budget time to see it whether or not you camp there. Take special note of Andrew's point, above, about making sure your vehicle will fit. The ten minutes between downtown and Kanawha are up hill, down dale, and around corners. Tight corners. If you live in Virginia, you're probably aware that mountain roads have plenty of quirks. If you're not used to taking an RV up the mountains, double check with the places you plan to stay and visit if you're going off the beaten path. Several sites we investigated when traveling last May said, "Don't use your GPS. They always steer everybody wrong. Here are the correct directions". GPS assumes that if a road has a name, it is driveable. This is not always the case.
